Gillingham hope victory over Blackpool will keep them flying high

Gillingham will look to maintain their place at the top of the Sky Bet League One table when struggling Blackpool head for Priestfield.

Home boss Justin Edinburgh is hoping to have defenders John Egan and Aaron Morris and striker Brennan Dickenson back from injury, but the game is likely to come too soon for Deji Oshilaja, despite his return to training.

Midfielders Doug Loft and Emmanuel Osadebe (both calf), as well as forward Cody McDonald (knee), were all back in harness for last Saturday's 1-0 home win over Doncaster, meaning Edinburgh has close to a full squad from which to choose.

He told Gillingham Player: "It's a challenge (staying at the summit) - can we continue that?

"We've had a fantastic August and I have just said, 'Are we able to replicate that and continue what we have started?'. That's the challenge for this young group."

Blackpool boss Neil McDonald has reported a clean bill of health ahead of the trip.

Goalkeeper Colin Doyle (shoulder) and midfielder John Herron (knee) returned to the side for the 1-0 win at Scunthorpe last Saturday, which was the Seasiders' first away victory in 497 days.

David Norris made his debut off the bench in that fixture and McDonald does not expect any new signings to arrive before heading to Gillingham, so he could utilise the same XI.

The Tangerines, who are running the rule over free agent striker Martin Paterson, are chasing back-to-back victories for the first time in two years.
