McDonald settles five-goal thriller

Cody McDonald's stoppage time goal gave Gillingham a hard-fought 3-2 victory 10-man Leyton Orient.

Their first league win in 10 games, earned in dramatic fashion, saw Peter Taylor's men climb out of the relegation zone.

Experienced Italian striker Gianvito Plasmati opened the scoring from the penalty spot with his first goal for the visitors in the 48th minute.

However, Gills defender Leon Legge headed in from Jake Hessenthaler's free-kick shortly before the hour to level the tie, and the pair combined again in the 74th minute to put the hosts in front, Legge's first-ever career double.

Scott Dagnall headed in Scott Cuthbert's cross to level the tie three minutes into added time, but McDonald snatched the win for the Gills with a close-range volley.

The Gills also missed an early penalty when Danny Kedwell saw his sixth-minute spot kick saved by Adam Legzdins.

They also ended the game with 10 men, after on-loan midfielder Michael Doughty was dismissed for two bookings.

The O's dropped into the relegation zone following this result, and manager Mauro Milanese remains without a league win since taking over at Brisbane Road.
