Gillingham go top of League One after bouncing back to defeat Bury

Dominic Samuel scored on his debut to kick-start Gillingham's revival as they came from behind to beat Bury 3-1 to go top of Sky Bet League One.

After Leon Clarke had put Bury ahead after just four minutes, Samuel - who only joined on loan from Reading on Friday - levelled the game almost immediately.

The game's fast start saw John Egan put Gillingham back in front after just 10 minutes, before Emmanuel Osadebe settled matters with a late third, finishing off a fine solo run for his first-ever senior goal.

Bury's first shot saw them go ahead when Clarke headed in Danny Mayor's whipped cross for his eighth of the season.

But 21-year-old Samuel levelled minutes later, reacting quickest after Jack Ruddy, making his first senior appearance, could only parry Jake Hessenthaler's deflected shot.

And with 10 minutes gone the Gills were back in front when Egan met a Harry Lennon knockdown to slot the ball through Ruddy's legs.

Bury's Danny Rose had a header cleared off the line by Lennon with 25 minutes left, before Osadebe grabbed a late third, showing great footwork down the right before cutting inside and finishing low.

Gills moved to the top of the standings by virtue of goal difference as they remain level on 34 points with Coventry.
