Kedwell double gets Gills going

Danny Kedwell struck twice in Gillingham's 3-1 victory over Bradford to give manager Martin Allen a win in his first league match in charge of the Kent side at Priestfield.

After scoring in their Capital One Cup triumph at Bristol City, Kedwell gave Gillingham the lead with an exquisite lob after 43 minutes before doubling the advantage from the penalty spot.

Bradford were also on target from the spot through substitute Nahki Wells but debutant Myles Weston made the game safe for the hosts.

Kyel Reid headed just over the crossbar in the opening minute for the Bantams, whose new-look starting line-up included seven summer signings.

Having made a brilliant save to deny Kedwell after eight minutes, goalkeeper Matt Duke was left stranded by his brilliant lob.

Gillingham were two up nine minutes after the break, as Kedwell blasted home from the spot after Charlie Lee was clumsily fouled by Garry Thompson

Bradford were given a lifeline when Wells scored a penalty of his own after being hauled down by Andy Frampton but Weston's 88th-minute solo strike put the game to bed.
