Gills reach second place by beating Barnsley

Sixty seconds of second-half madness ended Barnsley's unbeaten run as goals from Dominic Samuel and Bradley Dack gave Gillingham a 2-1 victory over the Tykes.

Reading loanee Samuel gave Gillingham the lead when showing tremendous pace to latch onto a Rory Donnelly through-ball after 25 minutes.

And, two minutes before half-time, Marley Watkins had a chance to bring the scores level but opted instead to pass to strike partner Sam Winnall, which ultimately was the wrong decision.

Just after the hour mark Gills switched off from a throw-in and an outstanding long-range volley from Conor Hourihane got Barnsley back into contention.

Within a minute of the Reds equalising, however, Gillingham raced down the other end and a Donnelly shot was spilled by Adam Davies straight into the path of Dack.

The Reds finished the stronger side with goalscorer Hourihane coming within inches of scoring a late equaliser in second-half stoppage time.

But the Gills held firm to go second in the Sky Bet League One table.
