Gills given crucial Legge-up

Leon Legge's first goal since January earned Gillingham only their seventh point in 10 games after a 1-1 home draw with Crawley.

Summer signing Gwion Edwards put the visitors ahead with his third of the campaign after 29 minutes when he slotted past Gills goalkeeper Stuart Nelson from close range.

Matt Harrold almost doubled the visitors' advantage shortly after, but the striker's shot rebounded off the post.

Legge equalised shortly before half-time with a bullet header from Jake Hessenthaler's corner and almost put the hosts in front in similar fashion one minute after the break.

Substitute Bradley Dack hit the crossbar from 20 yards on the hour for the Gills, who have not won a league game since beating Peterborough on September 16, before Legge was denied his second by a brilliant Dean Leacock block.

Crawley pair Joe Walsh and Josh Simpson saw their deflected efforts well saved by Nelson and Jimmy Smith's well-placed shot almost earned victory late on for the Red Devils, who have not won on the road since the opening day of the season.
