Wroe wraps up victory for Shrews

Nicky Wroe's last-minute penalty gave Shrewsbury all three points against fellow promotion hopefuls Gillingham with a 1-0 victory at the Priestfield Stadium.

Wroe coolly slotted home after Sean McAllister was clumsily fouled by Gillingham keeper Ross Flitney.

However, the result could have been a lot different if Gills striker Danny Kedwell had scored from the spot in the first half.

Yet the former AFC Wimbledon hitman hit his weak attempt straight at Town keeper Ben Smith on 23 minutes after Luke Rooney had been fouled by Jermaine Grandison following a quick break from a Shrewsbury corner.

The visitors had the better chances throughout the match, with Shane Cansdell-Sherriff forcing a smart save out of Flitney after 19 minutes.

Marvin Morgan wasted three golden opportunities to give his side the lead, most notably blazing over the bar from just three yards out in the first half.

Town's leading scoring Terry Gornell and Mark Wright also had good chances to win the game for Shrewsbury, but their profligacy in front of goal was soon forgotten when Wroe converted from the spot in time added on to give Graham Turner's side all three points.
