Gillingham skipper Mike Flynn is confident that the side can be in the promotion shake-up come the end of the season.
The Gills have won four and drawn one of their last six games to lift them up to 13th in the League One table and just three points off the play-off places.
And, following Saturday's 2-1 win over struggling Cheltenham at the Priestfield Stadium, Flynn said: "If I said I was just aiming for safety, that's not me at all. I'm aiming to go straight up.
"The manager doesn't go into things half-heartedly and neither do the boys. I don't want to get into the play-offs but want automatic promotion."
