Fair deal for Gills at Gulls

Gillingham assistant manager Ian Hendon felt that his side`s 1-1 draw at Torquay was a fair one. United took a sixth-minute lead through top scorer Elliot Benyon when he pounced on a spilled ball by visiting goalkeeper Alan Julian but Gillingham claimed an 87th-minute leveller when substitute Luke Rooney let fly from 25 yards from an angle. Hendon said: "Obviously we didn`t start the game we way we would have wanted to but we finished it the way we wanted. "They scored early on. It was a bit of a sloppy start from us and they got the goal, but we got back in it and forced their keeper to make a handful of saves in the first half and we wondered when we were going to score. "Torquay came at us a bit more and to be fair to them they played some good stuff in the second half and maybe they could have got two or three. That was how the game went. "All in all I would think at the end of the day Paul Buckle will feel that a draw was a fair result. When we stuck Luke Rooney on he gave us something and he went close with an effort. Then he got the goal and it looked as though we would go on to win the game at that stage."
