Gillingham striker Darren Byfield has left Priestfield to join Millwall on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old had been with the Gills for two seasons, scoring 19 goals in 67 league appearances, having previously enjoyed productive stints with Rotherham United and Walsall amongst others.

Byfield said after clinching his move: "I am delighted to be here and can't wait to get started."

He added on the club's official website: "All I want to do is get as many goals as I can for us and help Millwall win promotion back to the Championship next season."

Lions boss Nigel Spackman added: "There were a lot of injuries last season, but really we want a proven goalscorer here and Darren has scored an awful lot of goals in the lower leagues.

"He was very keen to come here, wanted to stay in London and that is the sort of player we need at the club."
