Bentley extends Gills deal

Gillingham have handed midfielder Mark Bentley a new two-year contract extension.

The 29-year-old schemer joined the Gills on a free transfer from Southend United last summer and has gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Bentley will now remain at the Priestfield until summer 2010.

"Mark is a key performer for Gillingham and gives his all every game," chairman Paul Scally told the club's official website.

"He is a popular member of the playing squad and will continue to give sterling service to the club."

The Gills are currently on the lookout for a new manager after Ronnie Jepson decided to step down earlier in the week, following their poor start to the new season.
