Akinfenwa set for Gills rest
Gillingham striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is expected to be rested for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round clash at Southend.
Summer signing Akinfenwa has been carrying a couple of knocks and had an injection in his shoulder before Saturday's draw at Morecambe, so boss Andy Hessenthaler revealed the former Northampton frontman is likely to sit out the game at Roots Hall.
Cody McDonald is expected to start in attack once again alongside either Mark McCammon or Stefan Payne.
Barry Fuller is also expected to be handed another start after returning from injury against the Shrimps, while Kevin Maher, Josh Gowling and John Nutter are pushing for starts.
But Curtis Weston will play no part as the midfielder is sidelined with a thigh problem.
