Kevin-Prince Boateng could have done enough to secure himself a starting role for Ghana in their World Cup opener against Serbia after impressing on his debut in the 1-0 win against Latvia on Saturday.

With injury doubts over Sulley Muntari persisting, Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac is looking for alternatives in midfield, and came away impressed by Boateng's first international appearance.

"It was his first game and he played in an unfamiliar role for him, but he handled it quite well. It is the role I want to give him but for a first game with Ghana he did well," the Black Stars coach said.

The 23-year-old Boateng started the match alongside Anthony Annan in the centre of the park before eventually being substituted in the 66th minute and that could be how Ghana line up against Serbia, with Muntari still highly doubtful and Michael Essien already lost to injury.
