Appiah eyes Premiership move

06 Jul 2006 - 10:10:48

Stephen Appiah is a target for several major Premiership clubs, according to the Ghana captain's agent.

The Fenerbahce midfielder was in inspirational form as the Black Stars reached the second round at the World Cup finals and his displays have attracted interest from a number of English-based managers.

The 25-year-old's representative, Frank Trimboli, refused to say which clubs are involved, but claimed two of them had qualified for the Champions League.

The indication is that he was referring to Manchester United and Arsenal, who are both known to be keen to bring in a commanding central midfielder.

"Stephen's performances at the World Cup attracted a lot of interest. There are three or four clubs serious about signing him, but probably only two who have a chance," Trimboli told the Daily Express.

"Stephen wants to play in the Premiership and I'm sure one day he will. He has been in Europe for 10 years and wouldn't have any problem with the English game."

Appiah had spells with Italian sides Udinese, Parma, Brescia and Juventus before moving to Turkey to join Fenerbahce last summer.
