Getafe targeted Guardiola

Getafe president Angel Torres has revealed that current Barcelona head coach Pep Guardiola almost moved to Madrid just over a year ago.

Guardiola was handed the top job at Barca at the start of last season and guided the Catalans to an unprecedented treble of La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Champions League success.

However, he had been lined up by Torres as a possible replacement if Barca had followed up initial interest in former Getafe boss Michael Laudrup.

Torres told AS: "Guardiola could have been the coach of Getafe 18 months ago.

"There was a moment when Joan Laporta wanted Michael Laudrup to take over at Barcelona, we in fact spoke about the possibility.

"I told him that there would be no problem with him speaking to the Dane in exchange for me being able to speak to Pep Guardiola about him coming here.

"I went there and spoke with Guardiola's agent on two occasions about it.

"Then things happened and Laporta made the decision that Guardiola would be promoted by him."
