Getafe sack coach Munoz

Getafe have sacked coach Victor Munoz following an alarming slide towards the foot of the La Liga table.

The board at the Madrid club took decisive action after Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Villarreal left them just one place above the drop zone.

Munoz, who previously coached Recreativo Huelva, Panathinaikos, Villarreal, Mallorca and Real Zaragoza, had been in the hot-seat for just nine months after replacing Michael Laudrup last summer.

Former Getafe boss Bernd Schuster, who left the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to take the reins at Real Madrid in in July 2007, has already been mentioned as a potential replacement.

Whoever takes over will have five games - against Real Mallorca, Osasuna, Deportivo La Coruna, Numancia and Racing Santander - to save the ailing club's top-flight status.
