Getafe place faith in Michel

Getafe have turned to former Spain and Real Madrid midfielder Michel to coach them to safety in the closing weeks of the La Liga season.

The Madrid club sacked Victor Munoz on Monday after a third straight league defeat had left them just one point above the relegation zone.

Michel, 46, has coached Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid Castilla in Spain's lower leagues, but this will be his first experience of top-flight management.

"With only five games left we are in the hands of the players. Michel has the experience to get this job done," said Getafe president Angel Torres.

"Michel knows the team, has attended some training sessions and is a member of the club.

"If it all goes well and he saves us, I will offer him the chance to continue."
