Getafe 1-0 Young Boys: Match Report

16 December 2010 22:24
Getafe bow oout with win Getafe bade farewell to the Europa League on a winning note after easing past already-qualified Young Boys 1-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. With no chance of a top-two finish in Group H, Getafe coach Michel opted to give some of his fringe players a chance and it was one of the newcomers, 20-year-old striker Adrian Corpa, who struck the only goal of the game early on. The result meant Getafe finished third in the group, two points behind Young Boys, and the Spanish club are sure to be thinking what might have been after conceding an injury-time equaliser in their previous match at Odense. Young Boys, who were unable to replace Stuttgart in top spot but could not be caught by either Getafe or Odense heading into the final round of fixtures, started promisingly and Moreno Costanzo forced home custodian Oscar Ustari into a diving save with a header. However, it was Getafe who took the lead through Adrian in the 15th minute. The young forward picked up a pass from Juan Albin, evaded the challenge of a Young Boys defender and squeezed a shot past visiting goalkeeper Marco Wolfli and into the far corner of the net. That proved to be the match-winning strike, but Getafe will feel they should have recorded a greater victory. Pedro Mosquera almost made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark after picking the ball up on the right edge of the area, but his low shot was deflected inches wide of the far post by Wolfli. Adrian Colunga and Albin also went close for the hosts prior to the break. Young Boys tried to rally at the start of the second half, but they could not get back on terms and it was visiting captain Wolfli who found himself the busier of the two goalkeepers as the period wore on. He tipped Albin's shot round the post in the 76th minute before producing another good save from the same player eight minutes later, parrying the Uruguayan's shot before one of his defenders hacked the loose ball to safety. Young Boys had one late opportunity to salvage a draw but Marco Schneuwly was denied by Ustari.
