Walesa tips Germany as Euro 2012 victor

Known for his uncanny political intuition, Lech Walesa -- Poland's anti-communist legend -- tipped a repeat of the European championship final four years ago but for Germany to this time beat holders Spain.

But Walesa said he will be rooting for Italy anyway on Thursday when he plans to be in Warsaw's National Stadium, where Cesare Prandelli's team takes on Germany in the semi-final.

"At the moment, I'm with Italy. They played well, and I really liked their style" on Sunday against England, Walesa told the PAP news agency.

Walesa, 68, won the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize for leading Solidarity, the Soviet bloc's first and only free trade union, and in 1990 became Poland's first post-communist head of state.
