Timo unsure over Germany recall

Published: 25 Jan 2009 - 14:45:00

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand feels his chances of regaining his place in the Germany national team are slim. The 29-year-old has returned to Germany after 18 months at Valencia, hoping to regain the place he lost before Euro 2008 - but he fears his time may have gone."Maybe I can keep goal as well as I want and still I won't get back in - because the people in charge are only planning with younger players," he suggested."I don't know if there will even be another chance for me."Hildebrand was regarded as number two to Jens Lehmann in the build-up to Euro 2008 but was dramatically left out of the tournament squad."To be left out of the national team without a reason after being in there for four years is certainly puzzling and a hard blow," he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung."To be left out of the European Championships was hard. That took a hell of a lot out of me."Hildebrand remains unsatisfied with coach Joachim Low's decision to leave him out."What I can say from the past is that I was the one who looked for a meeting (with Low) after Euro 2008.Maybe if I hadn't, I would still be waiting for one now," he said."Should I call them and say 'please, please let me in?'"All I have read is that (Germany general manager) Oliver Bierhoff hopes I become a problem for the national team again."
