Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit the German team in Poland as they prepare for their opening match against Portugal.
"The chancellor will travel to Gdansk this evening for a two-hour visit at the team's hotel" to offer her support, spokesman Steffen Seibert told a briefing.
German players welcomed the news of the chancellor's visit.
"It's an honour and a very good omen," Germany centre-back Per Mertesacker said in Gdansk.
"When I heard she was coming, I was very happy about that... Hosting her shows the status the national team has in German society and we hope to pay that back with good results at the Euro."
