Low prepared to go to limit
16 Jun 2008 - 11:05:03
Germany coach Joachim Low is determined to bounce back against Austria on Monday and qualify for the quarter-finals following the shock 2-1 defeat against Croatia.
The Germans need a point to reach the last eight, but the Croatia defeat means they can only finish as runners-up in Group B and will then face Portugal in the first knockout round.
Low said: "We definitely won't underestimate Austria and we will go to our limit and beyond.
"Of course we suffered a defeat against Croatia, but on Monday our team will definitely step on to the pitch with a very different demeanour.
"Every player is aware that in Germany some 30 million fans will probably be watching us and putting their hopes on us, hence it is our duty to our fans, to our nation, to play a completely different game.
"We will be full of energy and confidence."
Meanwhile, Michael Ballack has admitted the squad is tense going into the crucial encounter.
The Chelsea star said: "We go into the game with the pressure to win, which brings more percentage points out of you.
"We have this pressure but we have shown in the past that we can deal with it. Football is not always harmonious. I hope that we show a reaction and win the game.
"The voices in the team have got louder and people have been giving their opinion, but it is all constructive."
