Jurgen Klinsmann has decided to step down as coach of Germany, following the hosts' run to the semi-finals of the World Cup, with his assistant Joachim Low taking over.
The German Football Federation (DFB) had been hopeful of convincing Klinsmann to continue in his role, but have been unable to tempt him to uproot permanently from his California home.
Klinsmann took charge after a disastrous Euro 2004 finals, but faced a barrage of criticism before turning his side's fortunes around in spectacular style this summer.
Low steps up to take the top job with the full backing of Germany captain Michael Ballack.
He told the DFB's official website: "I find it unfortunate that Jurgen Klinsmann does not want to continue as coach of the national team, however, I respect his decision.
"At the same time I am glad that we have a new coach of the national team in Joachim Low, who the players know well and the style of the past work will continue."
