Low extension welcomed

Joachim Low's contract extension as coach of Germany has been welcomed by some of the Bundesliga's top clubs.

Low on Tuesday ended speculation surrounding his future by extending his contract until after Euro 2012 along with his coaching team and general manager Oliver Bierhoff. After leading Germany to third at the World Cup this summer, there had been a clamour of support for Low to carry on in charge and not walk away like his predecessor Jurgen Klinsmann did after obtaining the same result four years ago.

Werder Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs said: "I visited the team in South Africa and was able to see how well things were working in this set-up and it makes sense for the collaboration with all members of the coaching team to be extended."

He added: "The way the team presented itself at the World Cup and how they performed on the field was impressive."

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp added in the Bild newspaper: "That is a godsend since Jogi is the real world champion among coaches.

"Despite all resistance, he has done a magnificent job. I am convinced that we are going to get a lot of pleasure from Jogi and his lads for a long time yet."
