Low admits relief at final spot

    26 Jun 2008 - 07:19:56

Germany coach Joachim Low admitted his side rode their luck to book their place in the final following a 3-2 semi-final success over Turkey.

Philip Lahm's late winner was enough to squeeze past gallant Turkey in Basel after Semih Senturk equalised Mirolav Klose's second-half strike to set up the possibility of extra-time.

Turkey had taken the lead in the match through Ugur Boral before Germany replied courtesy of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

"We weren't very good in the first half and in the second we weren't that good either, but we gritted our teeth and we wanted the victory," admitted Low.

"The Turks played really well, they chased after the ball a lot and maybe they ran after it very well and we had heavy legs and the heat didn't do us any favours.

"It is an immense happiness that I am feeling.

"That was a battle in which we have expended a lot of energy."
