Lehmann: I would only return as first-choice

Jens Lehmann admitted he would be prepared to end his international retirement, but only if he could be first-choice goalkeeper for Germany at this summer's World Cup.

The former Arsenal stopper is back in contention after it was announced that Rene Adler will miss the tournament through injury - which leaves Manuel Neuer and Tim Wiese as the two first-choice keepers - and Lehmann says he will not play second fiddle.

"I wouldn't sit on the bench behind two keepers who have not had my consistency this season," he said. "My goal was to retire as the best German goalkeeper and I did that."

Bayern Munich's Hans-Jorg Butt is now the favourite to replace Adler in the Germany squad.
