Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness has reacted with astonishment that none of his squad was called up to the Germany squad.
Christian Gentner, Marcel Schafer and Sascha Riether have all been regular fixtures in Joachim Low's recent squad selections, but none were named in his provisional 27-man squad yesterday.
"There was absolutely no sign of this coming," said Hoeness. "They have always been called up and were even part of the recent fitness tests."
"They both have great team capabilities and therefore they would be ideal players for such a tournament," he added. "Therefore, we are all as much disappointed as we are surprised about this decision."
