Germany striker Mario Gomez has brushed off criticsm from Bayern Munich reserve coach Mehmet Scholl about his lack of movement in their 1-0 victory over Portugal.

Gomez came in for fierce criticism from ex-Germany midfielder and pundit Scholl, who slammed Gomez's first-half display saying he had "rarely seen him run less" and joked that he "feared (Gomez) would get bed sores" from his inactivity.

"Mehmet and I have a bit of a love-hate relationship, " Gomez said diplomatically.

"He once told me that he knows I have plenty of potential and that he just wants to coax the best performance out of me.

"I didn't think it was an attack. He is on Bayern's coaching staff now so I will try to learn from what he says and adapt my style of play."
