Germany Vs Italy: Key Players

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Although Schweinsteiger doesn’t provide a huge goal threat he is key to this Germany side and makes them tick. He has the ability to dictate play and pick precise passes which unlock defences. Joachim Low calls him “the brain” of the German side and has heaped praise on the creative midfielder. He is very similar to Xabi Alonso of Spain and will need to be on top of his game tonight as he will be facing the in-form Andrea Pirlo.

Andrea Pirlo

Pirlo has been Italy’s stand out player this tournament with a series of performances in the group stages and a dominant display against England in the quarter-finals. The iconic midfielder topped off a fantastic display against England with a panenka penalty which swung the mood of the shoot-out. Italy have it all to do tonight against a strong German side but with Pirlo on song they have every chance of getting through to face Spain in the final.
