France's Lizarazu eyes weak spots in German side

Former France defender Bixente Lizarazu has pointed the finger at a few weaknesses in the Germany team ahead of his country's clash with the hosts in Bremen in a fortnight.

Germany host France on February 29 in a pre-Euro 2012 friendly in the north German city and the ex-Bayern Munich defender says Germany's lack of pace in defence can be exploited by the France team.

"In terms of crossing, shooting and their direct play, the Germans are good," the 42-year-old told German magazine Kicker having retired in 2006.

"But there is some speed missing in defence."

Having won the 1998 World Cup with France, Lizarazu criticised the current form of French star Franck Ribery, who joined Bayern in 2007.

"For two years, he put on a fantastic show, then came the injuries and other problems," said Lizarazu, after Ribery was caught up in a sex scandal in 2010 after admitting sleeping with an under-age prostitute.

"At the moment, we are seeing a good Ribery, but not the best."

France have drawn England, co-hosts the Ukraine and Sweden in Group D, while Germany are up against Portugal, Denmark and the Netherlands in Group B with Euro 2012 to kick-off on June 8.
