Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Robin Dutt is set to be named sporting director of the German Football Federation (DFB), after Matthias Sammer's surprise departure for Bayern Munich, media reports said Tuesday.

Dutt, who was sacked by Leverkusen in April, and DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach finalised contractual details on Tuesday evening, German daily Bild and TV network Sky Sport News reported.

The DFB refused to comment on the reports, which said Dutt, 47, would be officially named to the position on Wednesday.

Former Germany captain Sammer unexpectedly announced on July 2 that he was leaving the post to become sporting director at Bayern Munich.
