Alan Dzagoev - Russia
After being dubbed one of the hottest prospects for this tournament, Dzagoev has lived up to the hype by netting three times for Russia in their opening two games. The 21 year-old has been pivotal for Russia and his performances haven't gone unnoticed. His pace, touches and his ability to time his runs have caused all sorts of problems for the Czech Republic and Poland back lines. Having been a CSKA regular since 2008 he has been a revelation in the Russian Premier league and if he continues to shine at the Euros CSKA may have to reluctantly let the Russian leave. As he only has a year to run on his contract CSKA may struggle to retain the player's services and with Chelsea and United waiting in the wings he may be persuaded by Premier league football. Dzagoev was linked with Real Madrid in 2008 but has claimed he would only consider a move from CSKA if it was to the English Premier league.
Mario Gomez - Germany
Although Gomez was second choice for a large part of Germany's qualifying campaign he took his chances when he played netting 6 times for the Germans. Gomez managed 41 goals in 52 appearances for Bayern last season and has carried his stunning form into this year's tournament. Contributing with a vital header in the 1-0 win over Portugal, Gomez followed up by netting twice against Holland in a famous 2-1 victory. His goals this summer are going to be crucial to Germany and with Klose on the bench he looks to be Germany's focal point. The feelings are if he keeps up the form he's showing he may well end up with the golden boot and help fire Germany to the final in Kiev.
Bastian Schweinsteiger - Germany
Schweinsteiger began his career as a winger but due to the arrivals of Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery at Bayern he has dropped into the centre of the midfield. Renowned for his ball control, precise passing and his ability to tackle makes him one of the best midfielders in Europe. He has played a big part in Germany's first two games with dominating performances and providing the through balls for both Gomez's goals last night against Holland. Playing alongside Mesut Ozil Germany possess one of the most creative midfields and if they continue to dominate this tournament it looks like only Spain may stop them.
