Ozil started his senior career with Shalke 04 in the Bundesliga, where his impressive performances as an attacking midfielder brought rave reviews.

In 2008 he joined Werder Bremen for 3.4 million euros and signed a contract to stay at the club until 2011.

Ozil has made himself a first-team regular at Bremen, and his performances have prompted speculation linking him to some of Europe's biggest clubs - including Arsenal and Liverpool.

He has won eight senior caps and could play a key role in Germany's campaign in South Africa.
