Galatasaray to be lead out by female coach against Karabukspor
Hope Powell linked to Manchester Utd job?
Ok, you guessed correctly, there is absolutely no truth to this speculation and April Fools is well behind us but this weekend we are expecting history to be made when Duygu Erdogan becomes the first female coach to lead out a professional club when she is expected to be Galatasaray’s coach for their match with Karabukspor.
How conceivable it is that a woman can be a manager of a professional football club here in the English Premier or Football League?
The interesting scenario that has led to this development was the sending off of Fatih Terim and his two assistance coaches Hasan Sas and Umit Davala, who were also sent to the stands during their last league game with Mersin. They all now face lengthy touchline bans. This now leaves Galatasaray with only two qualified coaches, one being their goalkeeping coach Tafarel and the other one is Duygu Erdogan. The news has set tongues wagging across the football world and if Duygu does become the first woman to coach a professional football club, this will no doubt open the door for a huge debate to begin amongst football fans all over the globe. Turkish newspapers have reportedly quoted Fatih Terim as publicly declaring his support for Duygu saying he has every faith in her ability.
You never know, had Duygu been in charge for the return leg against the Galactico’s the woman’s touch could have been the difference of seeing the Lions of Istanbul through to the semi-finals of the Champions League?
Have your say on this subject.
