Gala's Champions League Destiny Derailed

Fatih Terim's Champions League journey looked all but over last night after suffering a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Galactico's. The Red and Yellow Lions of Istanbul were in confident mood after their remarkable victory over Schalke in the previous round.

For many it might sound like sour grapes but a significant number of observers will have sympathy with the enigmatic Galatasaray manager after he saw his side put in a solid first half performance only to see Eboue undo this good work by reminding Arsenal fans in particular, of the defensive frailties which they came to love so much. Terim was furious that two penalty claims were dismissed by the Norwegian referee and whilst the handball in the first half looked dubious, the second half foul on Burak Yilmaz seemed a stonewall penalty claim which ironically got the Turkish front man a yellow card for alleged simulation.

The recent overcoming of a 2-0 deficit by Barcelona against AC Milan will give Galatasaray some hope and Mourinho has also accepted in his post-match interview that Istanbul will be a daunting atmosphere for his players come the 2nd leg in two weeks time. However, even taking these factors into consideration, it will be a brave man to bet on Gala making the semi finals of the Champions League. Turkish football fans will be hoping that Fenerbahce fair much better in their first leg against Lazio, which is being played tonight (4/4/13)
