Zamora faces Final fitness race

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora will do whatever it takes to be fit enough to feature in next month's Europa League final against Atletico Madrid in Hamburg.

The 29-year-old has found the net 19 times already this term and could be a surprise inclusion in Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.

The former Brighton, West Ham United and Tottenham hot-shot started Thursday's semi-final second leg victory against Hamburg but only after taking a pain-killing injection for his troublesome Achilles injury.

He had to be substituted early in the second half and looks set to be rested until the Final on May 12.

"I'm desperate to be out there for the final, so the next couple of weeks will be really important for me," Zamora said. "Maybe it was a bit of a gamble for me to face Hamburg, but I really wanted to play and would have done anything to do so.

"It wasn't my best performance but I'm pleased to have been able to play some part. I can't see me making the West Ham game, but we'll see. I just want to make sure I'm fit for the final.

"It's the tendon in my Achilles which I've got a bit of trouble with, so it will just be a case of looking after it."
