Who'll be next in the Fulham hot seat?

Fulham FC, a team that was established in the Premier League until last season, are now at the bottom of the Championship with just 1 solitary point from their opening 7 games. The appointment of Felix Magath as Manager looked like a good decision on paper, but poor results meant this choice has just not worked and he has now been sacked from the London club.

I thought I would take a look at some of the potential contenders for the job at Craven Cottage :

Kit Symons - Currently in charge at Fulham in the role of caretaker Manager after the sacking of Magath. Having been around at Fulham for a while, he was in charge of the Fulham Under 21 squad and is also involved with the Wales national team. He may be seen as more of a coach than a manager, as he has never been in charge of a club before on a permanent basis. He will get the opportunity to impress in the upcoming games.

Chris Hughton – One of the early favourites, having formerly managed Newcastle, from whom he was unlucky to be sacked, Birmingham and Norwich. He has an impressive win rate of just over 40% from 231 games and is a very popular man in the football world. He has experienced the Championship before and led Newcastle back to the Premier League. Do the Fulham fans want a bigger name at the Cottage?

Tony Pulis – The Welshman, left Crystal Palace this summer, because of board disputes. He certainly has an impressive track record in football. He led Stoke to the Premier League and having made them an established team left, with some fans unhappy. Last season he led Crystal Palace to a brilliant 11th place finish after coming in when it looked like they were doomed. In my opinion, this would be a good appointment, his teams do not always play the most attractive football, but he does get results.

Glen Hoddle – Having been out of management since 2006, he is now looking to get back into the management scene. He has certainly managed big clubs in the past, including Chelsea, Tottenham and the England national team. Having played over 500 games and managed for 15 years he has lots of experience, but would he be too big a risk to bring back in at this point?

Tim Sherwood – After leaving Tottenham in the summer, this former Tottenham manager has been linked with lots of jobs, but is this the one he will take? Being one of the few young English managers, some say he was unlucky to leave Spurs having led them to a respectable 6th spot in the Premier League. Would he have too little experience to lead a young struggling squad back up though?

The above are just some of the candidates for the job, there are many more and it is way too early to say who will get the job. Who do the Fulham fans want? Whoever gets the job will find it tough to lead a young struggling squad at the bottom of the Championship with the hefty expectations of the Fulham faithful.
