Sven snubs Sweden role

Sven-Goran Eriksson has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant Sweden coaching position. The former England boss was on the Swedish Football Association's shortlist to succeed Lars Lagerback. However, Eriksson, who is currently director of football at Notts County, has decided to shun the overtures of his home country. Eriksson has been linked with a host of jobs since joining Notts County, but it appears he is staying loyal to the ambitious League Two outfit. "Last week we made contact with 'Svennis', who is one of the people we thought could be a possibility for the job as national team coach," SvFF chairman Lars-Ake Lagrell said in a statement on www.svenskfotboll.se. "We have had good discussions, but he has now decided that with regards to his contract with Notts County, there is no possibility of him taking charge of the national team now." Fulham chief Roy Hodgson was also on Sweden's shortlist, but the former Switzerland boss has pledged his future to the Craven Cottage side. Sweden are searching for a new manager after seeing Lagerback step down following their failure to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals.
