Survival the aim for Hangeland

Brede Hangeland insists beating the drop will remain the target for Fulham ahead of the new season. The Cottagers enjoyed a memorable 2008/09 campaign, snatching seventh spot and a Europa League place. Expectations around Craven Cottage are for more of the same this season, despite a lack of activity in the transfer market. Hangeland, though, has moved to curb those ambitions by claiming no lofty targets have been set by the Fulham squad. "We are in Europe, but the Premier League remains the most important thing," the Norwegian centre-half told Nettavisen. "Even though we finished seventh last year, I am sure the goal for the next season will be to avoid relegation." Hangeland is, however, looking forward to continental competition this term, admitting last season's heroics came as something of a shock. "It is pretty crazy that we are in Europe," he added. "No-one had thought about that before last season and for Fulham as a club it is a fantastic achievement and very exciting."
