    Surgery ends Davies' season

    01 May 2009 - 16:25:56

Fulham midfielder Simon Davies has been forced to have surgery on his troublesome foot injury and will play no part in the Cottagers' last four games of the season.

The Wales international will also miss his country's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on 6 June.

"Simon Davies has been operated on and will be out for the rest of the season which is a major blow for us," admitted boss Roy Hodgson.

"He's been complaining about his foot for a while but has played through it.

"His problem has exacerbated in recent weeks so much so that we sent him for a scan. It's a former stress fracture which has been accumulating over all the games he's played.

"Simon Davies, in the time I've been here, hasn't missed a game. We're talking somewhere in the region of 50 games where he's been playing every week, never missing a training session - I think it's just one of those things that can develop.

"I think Davies is a star, to play 50 games non-stop, for me, that's a star. I know that he might not be a so-called star in that he doesn't have a high profile but I've been in football so long and I've worked with many high profile players that doesn't impress me anymore.

"What impresses me are good professionals who do a good job, week in week out - for me they'll always be the stars."
