Striker Booth hangs up his boots
Huddersfield striker Andy Booth has officially announced his decision to retire from the game at the end of the current season.The 35-year-old striker has had two spells with his hometown club, he made his debut at Fulham in March 1992, and has scored 148 goals in 450 appearances.
Booth, who will continue to work with Town in a commercial capacity as club ambassador, told the club's official website: "I always had it in my mind that this was going to be my last season. With it being the centenary year I always wanted to play and go out on a high.
"We haven't made it to play-offs this season, but we will finish in a good position and I knew that I'd finish at the end of the season."
Booth, who left Town for Sheffield Wednesday in a £2.7million deal in July 1996 before returning five years later, confirmed the club would be retaining his registration as a player for next season.
He added: "I wish I was a few years younger to be honest because it's a terrific time to be involved at the club. We are going places. The new chairman has come in and is very ambitious and you just have to talk to Lee Clark and there is only one place he wants to go and that's the Premier League."
