Still - No Fulham approach for Sven

Athole Still says he is mystified as to why Sven-Goran Eriksson has become the favourite for the Fulham manager's job when there has been no contact from the Cottagers.

Eriksson's agent is still waiting to see if Fulham are to make a move for the Swede after their bid to land Ajax coach Martin Jol failed. Bookmakers have now made Eriksson 2-1 favourite to land the Fulham post but Still told Press Association Sport there has not yet been any contact with the west London club.

"There has been no official contact with Fulham whatsoever," said Still. "There have been no discussions and this goes back for three weeks."

He added: "There have been no meetings, no discussions and I don't know why Sven is now 2-1 favourite from 6-1.

"I am just waiting to hear if they are going to make an offer and then we will see. Sven is in demand every time a top job comes up but they don't come up every day. I am just waiting, as I have done for the last three weeks."

Eriksson worked closely with Fulham's chief executive Alistair Mackintosh during their time together at Manchester City.

But it is understood that Mackintosh has been dealing with a private matter in the last 24 hours as Eriksson waits in the wings.

The former England manager, who coached the Ivory Coast during the World Cup, would relish the chance to return to the Premier League.

But while the African nation are also interested in offering him a new contract, much will depend on Fulham's next move.
