Seol turns down HK switch

15 Jan 2010 - 12:04:38

Fulham midfielder Ki-Hyeon Seol has rejected the chance to join Hong Kong-based outfit South China.

The 31-year-old was placed on the transfer list earlier this season after dropping out of Roy Hodgson's first-team plans.

The former Wolves and Reading striker is keen to play regular first-team football in the second half of the season to improve his chances of being included in South Korea's World Cup squad.

However, a move to Hong Kong would not suit the player, with South China chairman Steven Lo telling the South China Morning Post: "It was a bit disappointing as we were close to signing a classy player.

"But his decision is understandable as Seol wants to boost his chances of playing for his country in the World Cup finals. Playing in the Hong Kong league would not do him any favours."

Seol, who has made 26 appearances for the Cottagers, joined Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal on a six-month loan arrangement last January.

He returned to Fulham last summer, but has made only one start for Hodgson's side so far this term.
