Schwarzer aims for new deal
06 Jul 2009 - 08:26:13
Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has urged Fulham to offer a new contract to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Schwarzer, 36, enjoyed an impressive first season at Craven Cottage after playing every minute of their Premier League campaign following his free transfer switch from Middlesbrough.
The Australia international has less than 12 months remaining on his existing deal and insists he has no plans to hang up his boots.
But while Schwarzer would like to stay with the Cottagers, he would consider moving on if no new deal is offered.
He said: "We haven't spoken about a new deal yet and, while I'm extremely happy at a club that's given me a new lease on life, there is a possibility I could move on a free transfer at the end of my contract.
"I haven't ruled anything in or out. My main priority right now is to push through to the next World Cup.
"If I'm still on top of my game and enjoying things, then of course I will look to continue at the top level for at least another year beyond that."
