Schwarzer holds contract talks

Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is in contract talks with the club as he considers continuing his career at Craven Cottage. The Australian has been a star performer for Roy Hodgson's European hopefuls this season after leaving Middlesbrough on a free transfer last summer. Schwarzer's dazzling form has created rumours that a number of clubs could be considering testing Fulham's resolve at the end of the current campaign. However, the 36-year-old - who has one year left on his contract - has revealed the Cottagers have opened negotiations with a view to extending his stay in London. "There's been a few discussions," Schwarzer told the Fulham Chronicle. "And I feel as good, if not better, than when I first signed for Fulham. At this stage in my career, if the manager backs you and you continue to play week in, week out, then why not continue to play for as long as possible?" Meanwhile, the shot-stopper has attributed Fulham's excellent season, which could be silver-lined with a seventh-placed Premier League finish and Europa League qualification, to manager Roy Hodgson. "He's calm and modest, and that filters down to the players, but he makes us conscious about keeping our heads down and concentrating right to the end of every game," Schwarzer said.
