Sanchez wins Murphy vote
21 Sep 2007 - 12:02:47
On-loan midfielder Danny Murphy believes Lawrie Sanchez is taking Fulham in the right direction after admitting he has been impressed with the manager following his arrival.
The former England international joined the Cottagers on a season-long loan from Tottenham on transfer deadline day and made his debut as a late substitute in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Wigan.
Murphy, who is hoping to earn a starting berth for Saturday's visit of Manchester City, believes Sanchez is the right man to take the club forward.
"In terms of him as a Premier League manager I didn't know a great deal. I'd seen he'd helped keep Fulham up last season and I think like most people I was most aware of his achievements during his time as Northern Ireland manager," Murphy told the club's official website.
"To take a side who had underachieved for so long and get them playing so well together was something really special.
"He worked in the lower leagues as well with Wycombe Wanderers and took them to an FA Cup semi-final.
"You can only tell so much from the outside, but since meeting him and training and playing under him, I have been really impressed with his ideas.
"He has a set way that he wants us to play and I think that the lads are responding to that."
