Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez hopes that Danny Murphy can revive his career at Craven Cottage after the midfielder endured a frustrating time at Tottenham.

The 30-year-old joined the Cottagers on a one-year deal last month and scored in Saturday evening's 3-3 draw with Manchester City, only his second appearance for Lawrie Sanchez's side.

"Danny did really well, he's such a good finisher but he also has so many other good qualities as well," said the former Northern Ireland chief.

"He's experienced and we needed cover in that midfield area with Papa Bouba Diop going to Portsmouth on deadline day.

"He didn't have the best of times at Tottenham and it's up to him to show that he's got a future here. It's not a loan as some people think.

"He's here until the end of the season and has the chance to show what he can do."

Murphy made only 13 starts during his 18-month stay at White Hart Lane and has won nine England caps - the last coming against Denmark almost four years ago.
