    Referee displays irks Hodgson

    06 Nov 2009 - 07:58:24

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson believes they suffered an "injustice" after losing 2-1 in the Europa League to AS Roma on Thursday night.

The Italian side came from behind to beat the nine-man Cottagers at the Stadio Olimpico.

Just a fortnight after Claudio Ranieri's team had rescued a point at Craven Cottage thanks to Marco Andreolli's stoppage-time equaliser, the Serie A side once again had to battle back after going behind.

Substitute Erik Nevland and Paul Konchesky both saw red for the London club, with the only highlight being Diomansy Kamara's first-half goal from the penalty spot.

"You cannot be happy in the face of injustice," said Hodgson. "I accept the situation because the referee makes the decision but I'm not happy.

"I think the two red cards were very harsh. I didn't speak to the referee. I only spoke to the fourth official.

"To play in the second half down to 10 men is a bitter pill to swallow.

"But what can you do but accept the referee's decision because it doesn't change anything.

"It was a fantastic performance from my players in the first half.

"We have been better than Roma when playing 11 against 11 in both games."
