Fulham have handed a new one-year contract extension to veteran centre-back Ian Pearce, while they are close to agreeing a deal with right-back Moritz Volz.

Pearce, now 32, was due to fall out of contract next summer, but has earned a further 12 months after his recent return to form and fitness.

Cottagers boss Chris Coleman told the club's official website: "I am really pleased that we have secured the services of Ian Pearce for a further season.

"He has been top-class for us so far this season with some outstanding performances at the back.

"His attitude in training has been fantastic also and he's in the best physical shape I've seen him, so it's great that we have been able to extend his contract."

Of Volz, Coleman added: "We are quite close with Moritz. He wants to stay and I've been delighted with his attitude and his input. He has done a terrific job for us.

"He is a young guy as well and he's only going to get better. He is definitely somebody we want for the future and he wants to stay, which is important."

Strikers Brian McBride and Tomasz Radzinski, midfielder Claus Jensen and defender Philippe Christanval are all out of contract as well next summer, with only McBride certain of being offered fresh terms.
