Niemi talks up Lastuvka

Injured Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi has backed his deputy Jan Lastuvka to prove his worth in the coming weeks.

Niemi is currently sidelined with a knee injury, with Lastuvka making his league debut in the 2-0 weekend reverse at Blackburn Rovers and being badly at fault for the opening goal of the game.

However, Niemi commented: "He's very agile and the saves he makes in training come very naturally to him.

"He's got a great spring, he's a very sharp keeper and he's got a good attitude towards training.

"I had heard of him before he moved to Fulham and I know Southampton were looking at him a few years ago, he's one of those promising young names that have been mentioned in different circles.

"I know other people were having a look at him when he was playing for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League."
